Then, SURF up and down the side of the island while half on land and half in the water. Keep surfing until challenged by a glitch that resembles a microchip or barcode. He is part bird and part water type and starts on level 80. Note: Obtaining Missingno can keep the game from continuing correctly, including preventing linked battles, and other bad effects. It is recommended that Missingno be released unless you are just experimenting with the game. Hint: Pokemon "M": Go to Viridian City and talk to the old man. When he asks if you are in a hurry, answer "No". After he explains how to catch a Weedle, fly to Cinnabar Island. SURF on the side of Cinnabar that faces the Seafoam Islands to find the Pokemon "M". You may also find level 132 Mewtwos and Alakazams. Note: Obtaining M can keep the game from continuing correctly, including preventing linked battles, and other bad effects. It is recommended that M be released unless you are just experimenting with the game. By using this trick, you also have a very rare chance of getting Mew. Hint: Unlimited items: Find the Missingno Pokemon and defeat him. A design will appear in your sixth item. Deposit your sixth item individually until it totals 99. Then you can divide the items by fifty. If a no more room message appears, just withdraw an item and keep depositing the sixth item. Check the CPU when this is complete to find two groups of 99 of the same item. Note: Obtaining Missingno can keep the game from continuing correctly, including preventing linked battles, and other bad effects. It is recommended that Missingno be released unless you are just experimenting with the game. Use the unlimited item trick with "Rare Candy". Once duplicated, use the "Rare Candys" on all your Pokemon that are at very low levels to quickly increase them. Note: The highest level possible is 100. To upgrade your Pokemon's stats, duplicate items like Protien and Carbos. Instead of having to fly back to Viridian to do the trick over again (if duplicating more than one item), the items may be switched if you stay in the water. Use the unlimited item trick after getting 1 Protein, Iron, Carbos, and Calcium at Go to Celadon city. Put Protein in the sixth spot, duplicate it, then repeat with Iron and the rest of the items. Use them on your Pokemon to pump them up. When trying to catch rare Pokemon (Mewtwo, the Legendary Birds, etc.) use the unlimited items trick and duplicate the Masterball. You will never miss catching a Pokemon. Hint: Unlimited money: For unlimited money, place a gold nugget in the sixth item slot and get ninety-nine of them by using the "Unlimited items" trick. Sell all except one to increase your money. Use the remaining gold nugget to repeat this procedure. Go to any Pokemart and sell the nuggets until you have 999,999 coins. Go to Celadon City and go to the Game Corner. Go inside and talk to the man at the counter, who is on the right of the counter. He will ask you if you need coins. Say yes. He will give you 50 coins. Continue until you have about 7,000 coins. Now you can buy any item or Pokemon in the Prize Exchange house. Using a Full Restore with the "Unlimited items" trick can also result in a large amount of money when sold. Hint: Finding money: Walk around and press A in the Rocket Game Corner to find coins that people have dropped. Go to the Rocket Game Corner, go up the first aisle and stand on the last chair on the left side. Then, move up one space then go right one space. Press A to find 100 coins. Hint: Saving money: Instead of repeatedly paying to get in the Safari Zone, save the game after entering. Then, instead of paying again, just turn off the Game Boy and turn it back on. Super potions cost 700 and revive by 50. However, in the Celedon City Department Store, lemonade costs 350 and revives by 80. Note: This is on the fifth floor, at the vending machines. Hint: Hidden Nugget: In Copy Cat's house, go to her room. On the table at the top is a doll. Talk to the open space on the table next to it. There is a Nugget hidden there. Hint: Avoiding battles: If you do not want fight all the gym leaders or people who want a fight while wandering in the cities, just avoid them by walking past while they are looking away. Hint: Erasing HMs: If you have Pokemon Stadium on the Nintendo 64, you can erase at least 1 HM. If you have at least 1 TM that the proposed Pokemon can learn, you should be able to erase an HM. Hint: More than one rare candy item slot (Blue version): Note: This code requires six badges, FLY, CUT, SURF, and may only be done after the Elite 4 are defeated. Use the "Unlimited items" trick for "Rare Candys". Then, fly to Cerulean City and go to the end of the Nugget Bridge. Turn left to where there is a long strip of grassy area bordered by water. Then, SURF through the water path to the hidden dungeon. Fight various Pokemon and find a Rare Candy, then save the game. Turn off the game, then load the previously saved game. Tight another Pokemon or two, then press Start, go to items, two slots of Rare Candys should appear. Note: This trick may not work every time, and may also be done on Victory Road. Hint: Rare Candy warning: Be careful when using Rare Candies. If you use too many rare candies your Pokemon will only get half as strong as it could be. Once you have a level 100 Pokemon, there is no way to level it more, even with the "Unlimited Rare Candies" trick. You can only catch a level 255 Pokemon, but once it grows a level it will return to level 100. Hint: Catch Pokemon easier: Duplicate a Master Ball using the "Unlimited Items" trick. Then, use the Master Balls on all the Pokemon that you do not have to quickly capture them. Use False Swipe until there is 1 HP remaining, then paralyze them. This will make it harder for them to break out. Hint: Alternate music: Defeat the Elite Four, and at some point in the game, perform the "Unlimited items" trick. Go to the PC and look at the Pokemon League stats. The music will change and remain changed as long as your remain in the Pokecenter. Hint: Level up at a Day Care: For the Day Care, 1 step is equal to 1 EXP point. So, putting a low level Pokemon, or a Pokemon that does not need many EXP points to level up is the easiest way to use the daycare center. High level Pokemon will require about half the game's worth of steps before it will evolve once. Also, do not leave unevolved Pokemon there too long, as they can level up past their evolution point and still be the same type of Pokemon. Note: If you leave a Pokemon at the Day Care, the Pokemon will not evolve or get new moves. For example, If you leave a level 9 Caterpi in the Day Care to grow it a little so it can be a Metapod at level 10, it will not change. Also, most likely it will pass level 10 in the daycare. Hint: Raise Pokemon stats after level 100: Choose the Pokemon whose stats you want to raise. Use it in battle until one of its attacks is out of PP. Before healing it, deposit it in the PC and then immediately withdraw it. Heal it at a Pokemon Center and one or more of its stats should have gone up by at least 1. Put the Pokemon you want to raise at the top of your lineup. Fight through the Elite Four using only that Pokemon. After that, put the Pokemon in an empty PC box, then take it out again. The Pokemon's stats will have risen by at least 1 point. Hint: Increasing stats: Make a Pokemon run out of power points for a move it learned on its own. Then, store it in the PC, take it out, and heal it. One or more of its stats will be raised slightly. Hint: Pokemon from the Game Corner: Pokemon that are bought at the Game Corner are higher in level than when you catch them in the wild. Hint: Reviving Pokemon easily: Note: This trick requires a level 99 or less Pokemon, a Rare Candy, and a Max Potion. If a Pokemon faints, use the Rare Candy, then the Potion or Max Potion. Note: The battle must end before doing this trick. Hint: Old man on roof: Step to the right of the door at the gym where you get the Volcano Badge. You should be on the edge of the water. Use Lapras or another Pokemon to SURF out into the water. Then, come back in and go to the door. The game will say that the door is locked. Look on the roof to find an old man. Hint: Teleporting old man: This trick is similar to the old man on roof trick. Go into Celadon City. Store your bike on the PC, then go to the building that leads to Cycling Road. When you try to go past the guard, he will tell you that no pedestrians are allowed on Cycling Road. While he is telling you this, look at the wall behind him. The old man will be on top of the wall. When you move back by one little square, go down toward the stairs and try to get past the guard again. He will tell you the same thing again, and this time the old man will be a little to your left. Hint: Phantom PC: Go to the hotel in Celadon City. Move to the upper right corner. Just like in the Pokemon Centers, stand just in front of the upper right hand corner. Press A and you can access the PC. Hint: Easy experience: An easy way to earn experience for a weaker Pokemon is to put your lowest-level Pokemon at the top of your list. When a fight begins, it will be the first Pokemon released. Instead of fighting, just switch to a stronger Pokemon. The weaker Pokemon will share the experience from the battle without being put in any danger. This is a good way to make your Pokemon gain experience evenly. Place the Pokemon that you want to level up at the top of your list. Fight the Elite Four, then switch to the Pokemon you want to win with, and bring it out. Keep repeating this with every trainer and Pokemon. Hint: Winning money in Celadon City: Enter Celadon City and get the coin case from the man in the back of the diner. Go to the slots and ask for some free coins. You will use these to play the slots and win Pokemon prizes. Here is how to find the slot machine that pays out the most. When you walk in, there are rows of slots. Find the man to the far left that says "wins come and go". Below him is a machine that is out of order. Play the machine directly beneath it. Do not get frustrated if you do not win constantly. If it stops paying out a lot, leave, go train your Pokemon, and come back later. Note: This trick works more often in the "Blue" version of the game. Hold Select during slot machine spins for a better chance of winning. An easy way to gain money in the slot machines is to raise your luck. Just carry six Chanseys with you -- but even having one will add to your chances. Also try walking around Celadon's Game Corner and repeatedly press A to find coins that people have dropped When you enter Celadon Game Corner, go up to the bookshelves. Look at the second one to the left and press A. You should get 100 coins for the Game Corner, but only with the Coin Case. Hint: Easy coins: When you go to the house with the group of casino machines, press B on the gambling people's backs to gain 10 to 20 coins each. You can get up to 120 coins this way. Hint: Teleport: An Abra is hard to catch, but it is worth it. When your Pokemon are weak and you need to get to a Pokécenter quickly, press Start and choose Pokemon. A list of your Pokemon will appear. If you have Abra with you, choose him and select teleport. Note: You have to be outside first; use an escape rope if needed. It will take you directly to the last Pokemon Center visited. Hint: Clone Pokemon: Note: This trick requires another Game Boy and Pokemon game. Trade the Pokemon to be cloned, and have the other player get a Pokemon that he or she does not care about. Trade them, and make sure the player receiving the bad Pokemon can see the other player's screen. When the Game Boy that receives the good Pokemon's displays "Waiting", get ready to shut the other Game Boy off. When the "Waiting" message disappears, turn off the Game Boy that is receiving the bad Pokemon. When the "Trade completed" message appears, turn off the remaining Game Boy. Both games will have the same good Pokemon when they are turned back on. Note: Do not attempt this trick with any saved games you wish to keep, as it can corrupt those files if done incorrectly. Hint: Other ways to get to a Pokécenter: Besides teleporting, the following methods may also be used to get to a Pokécenter. Use Dig when in a cave; Fly (HM05 that lets you fly to any desired town; Also try Softboiled that you can only teach Chansey. It takes some of Chansey's health to give to another Pokémon, and also restores Chansey's health by half during a battle. Flash, used to light up Rock Tunnel and make an opponent's accuracy fall. Cut used to cut certain bushes and is used like Scratch in battle. SURF, which lets you surf across any body of water and is used like the Hydro-Pump in battle. Hint: Keep earning money: Here is a great way to keep getting money even after beating all the trainers in the game. Keep betting the Pokemon league 4 and your rival repeatedly. You can beat them an unlimited number of times. This is also a useful to build levels quickly. Hint: Fight Safari Pokemon elsewhere: This trick allows you to fight Pokemon from one area of the game in another area. For example, go to the Safari zone and battle for a while. Fight a Tauros, then leave the Safari zone. Then, go to the island where Articuno is found. Swim up and down the shore, at the point where it appears that you are on the ground, but are actually swimming in the water. Monsters from the Safari zone will appear here. Go to the desired area for the Pokemon you want to catch. If you do see the Pokemon you want, do not catch it. Run away, then exit the safari zone. Fly to Cinnabar Island then surf up and down on the coast facing the Seafoam Islands. Eventually you will see Pokemon from the Safari Zone. Note: You do not have to see the Pokemon you want to catch, you just have to go to the area of the Safari Zone where the Pokemon you want are located. You do not have to see the Pokemon in the Safari Zone to catch them. You can just walk into it then back out and have a chance of getting Pokemon. Hint: Unlimited Safari Zone fishing: You can use any rod in the Safari Zone and you will not lose any time while fishing. Hint: Alternate route to Cinnabar Island: You do not have to go through Seafoam Island to get to Cinnabar Island. Return to Pallet Town and SURF down to reach Cinnabar Island. Hint: Finding the secret house in Safari Zone: Ironically, the easiest way to the secret house is to use a Pokemon that knows SURF. Trade a friend (temporary or not) and enter the Safari Zone. Go straight up to the water and SURF across (stop and pick up the item on the "island"). When you reach the other side of the water, go up towards the left and through the opening. Then, go straight up onto a hill and come down on the other side. Go down and keep going down until you reach another hill. Go up, go left, then get off the hill. Go up and SURF across the water. The secret house should be right in front of you. Enter the house and talk to the man, then press A on the first statue to your right. The gold teeth are to your right, past the hill, and down. The other way to reach the is as follows: Go east (right) to the bush. Go up, then to the right on across the arrows. Go east, then up on the first hill, go west and come down. Go north-east, ignore the rest house, start to go west (above the first row of bushes), and stay under the second row. Keep going west. Cross the arrows into the next area. Go west, ignore the mountain, and you will reach three mini-lakes. Go north-east. Ignore the rest house, and go west again above the row of bushes. Just follow that path to the west, then south. You will soon reach the secret house area. Hint: Unlimited chances to catch rare Pokemon: First, find a rare Pokemon such as a Mewtwo. Then, immediately before entering a battle with it, save the game. Now you can battle the Pokemon without worrying about not catching it. If you make a mistake and make it faint, stop and shut off the game. Then, turn on the game and use the continue option to restart just before the battle. Hint: Unlimited time for Safari Zone (Water Pokemon only): This trick allows an unlimited amount of time in the Safari zone to catch Water Pokemon. Obtain a good or super rod. Next, go to the Safari zone and find some water. Then, go into inventory and use the rod to start fishing. If a "Not even a nibble" message appears, press A, then quickly press Start. If you got into a fight, check the Pokemon out. If it is one you do not have, catch it then quickly press Start after the battle. Return to the inventory and fish again. If you already have this Pokemon, run from it, then quickly press Start and begin fishing again. This will help you catch some good Water Pokemon with plenty of time. Hint: Quick Safari Zone captures: Go to the Safari Zone and use up your time in the different areas. Once the PA removes you from the hunt, fly to Cinnabar Island and SURF half on land and in the water on the side facing Seafoam Island. In a short amount of time, you will be able to capture all of the Pokemon from Safari Zone. Hint: Fish forever: In the Safari Zone, the 500 units that are allocated when entering are based on number of steps, not time, spent. You can fish forever in the park if you go to water and not move the entire time that you are fishing. Hint: Fishing for good Pokemon: This trick requires the Blue version of the game, a super rod, and five badges. Go fishing in the Pokemon HQ building. To reach the building, use the path west of Viridian City (route 22). Once inside, some annoying gaurds will ask if you have certain badges. You will eventually reach an indoor pool/lake that must be crossed on a Pokemon that knows SURF. Go fishing here to eventually catch Slowbro, Psyduck, Kingler, Seadra, and Seaking. Additionally, a Ditto may be caught in the grass across from the lake. Hint: Using rods: Old rods only catch Magikarp. Good rods catch Goldeens, Magikarps, and Poliwags. Super Rods catch will catch all the water dwelling Pokemon. Hint: Better chance to capture Water Pokemon: Press A when the rod comes out. This works most of the time. Hint: Better chance to capture Pokemon: When you throw a Poke-ball hold A as it closes on the Pokemon. The Poke-ball will shut tighter, making it easier to catch the Pokemon. When using any kind of Poke-ball (except the Master Ball), enter a battle and prepare to throw it at a Pokemon. As soon as it appears, hold Up + B. The Ball will become a Master Ball and catch the Pokemon. Note: This trick requires precise timing. Throw any kind of ball while pressing A + Select to have it act like a Master Ball or Ultra Ball. Hint: Catch Pokemon at level 15: Press Start, A, B (requires precise timing) to catch a Pokemon at level 15 with the Poke-ball. Hint: Catch Pokemon easilty: To catch Pokemon easily using any kind of ball (except the Master Ball), go into battle. Hold B as soon as you see the ball explode. If you hold the button just as the ball explodes and release it after you see the ball wobble a second time, you will have a good chance at catching a Pokemon. Hint: Defeating Rock and Ground type Pokemon with normal element Pokemon: Just teach the normal Pokemon Surf or any other water moves. This trick works with almost every normal Pokemon. Hint: Harder hitting attacks: Hold A while attacking to do more damage. Hint: Blocking the Swift move: In order to block the move Swift, teach a Pokemon Substitute. Use it against a Pokemon that knows Swift. The opponent's attack will be taken by the substitute. Your Pokemon will remain unaffected. Hint: Ineffective poisons: If one of your strong Pokemon gets poisoned during a battle, just keep using a move that can cause an instant K.O.. If you keep knocking out the opponent's Pokemon one after another, the poison will not work. Also, instead of pressing and holding the D-pad, tap it to take small steps. Hint: Poison: Every four steps you take when poisoned will hurt your Pokemon. Take the shortest way out of a cave or patch of grass to get less poisoned; or you can get a Pokemon that knows Fly, Dig, or Teleport and get to a Pokemon Center as fast as possible. Use the following trick if you are poisoned in a battle and it lasts, and you have no healing items but a town is nearby. Learn where the Pokemon Center is located -- you may want to save the game before you look for it. Then, turn your game off, then back on again. Map out the shortest route possible and press the D-pad lightly to take small steps. Enter the town and go to the center -- hopefully you will be able to make it in time, Hint: Waterfall: Use the following trick to get a Pokemon that knows Waterfall. Trade a water Pokemon from the Pokemon Red or Blue to Pokemon Gold or Silver. Teach it Waterfall. Trade it back to the Red or Blue version (notice how it allows you to bring it in the time machine). When you receive it, the Pokemon will know Waterfall. The move resembles a mix between Surf, Dig, and Tackle. Hint: Get all three beginning monsters at Professor Oak's lab: Note: Another Game Boy with the game and a link cable are required for this trick. Transfer your Pokemon to the other Game Boy. Begin a new game on the original Game Boy and get a monster that was not collected in the first game and transfer it to the other Game Boy. Repeat this step again, then transfer the monsters back to the original Game Boy. This allows your game to have the three starting Pokemon (Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle) plus any others that were already captured. Note: When doing this trick, you are forced to loss all saved data on the game you want the Pokemon for, and if you do this trick later in the game, if you trade all your Pokemon back and forth, they will be to wild for a starter game. You can raise the Pokemon with rare candies up to level 255. After that, they return to level 0. Note: The Pokemon available may vary from cartridge to cartridge. Hint: Go on Cycling Road without a bicycle: Walk up as far as you can in the building to Cycling Road. Walk forward and the guard will say that you cannot go on cycling road without a bicycle. While he is saying that, hold Left and quickly press B several times until you are across from the guard. Note: If you already have a bike and you want to try this trick, deposit your bike in a computer. Note: The game may glitch when this trick is used. Hint: Using the Poke Flute: The Poke Flute can also be used to wake up sleeping Pokemon during battles, saving money from buying extra Awakenings. Hint: Getting the Master Ball: Go into the fifth floor of the Silph Co. building in Saffron City. Go to the bottom of the screen to find a man standing next to a teleporter. Enter the teleporter to travel to another room. Get off the teleporter, then go in it again to return to the fifth floor. Go right to find a ball that looks like a Pokeball. Pick it up -- it should be a card key. Go back in the teleporter you used before. Get off the teleporter, then enter it again. Go up and go to the third floor. Go down, then go left to find a "wall" blocking the way. Talk to the "wall" and the card key will open it. Go left to find a teleporter. Enter the teleporter, then go left and you will battle Gary. Talk to the man near Gary and he will give you a Lapras. Keep going down, then four steps right. Go up, then talk to the "wall" to open it. Go up and battle Giovanni. Defeat him, then talk to the man (Mr. Fuji). He will take you to his house and give you a Master Ball. This Poke Ball will catch Pokemon 100% of the time. You can only use it once, so use it on rare Pokemon such Moltres, Mewto, Zapdos and Arcticuno. Hint: Catching Water Pokemon: Stand in front of any statue of a gym and use the rod to catch Water Pokemon. Hint: Using the Item Finder: The Item Finder is only useful if you know where to look. Try dead end and secluded areas as well as the underground tunnels. When you get the Item Finder people say that you can find a bottle with a note saying Mariuu (Pikablu) is located somewhere in the Seafoam Islands. You are supposed to use the Item Finder in the water near the Mewtwo lair. However, this bottle cannot be found in the Blue or Red version. You can hear the beep of an item, but you can never get it. Use the Item Finder when you go to the underground path to Vermilion City to find a Full Restore and a X Special. Hint: Dig advantage: Dig is very effective against Ghost and Psychic Pokemon. Hint: No need to typecast: Dragon Rage, Sonicboom, Night Shade, Super Fang, Psywave, and Seismic Toss are attacks that are never typecast. Those attacks will always do normal damage regardless of Pokemon types. Hint: Stand on a tree: If you have a Pokemon that knows CUT (TM 01), cut down a tree, stand on the place where the tree was cut down, save the game, and turn it off. Turn the game back on, select "Continue" and press A when the game starts. Your character should be on a tree. Hint: Finding Pokemon in grass: You can cut down the grass you catch pokemon in by using the Cut move. Hint: Rare Pokemon: You can catch evolved forms of rare Pokemon in the Unknown Dungeon (where you get Mewtwo). This includes Wigglytuff, Arbok, Sandslash, Venomoth, Kadabra, Parasect, Raichu, Hypno, Magneton, Dugtrio, Marowak, and Electrode. Hint: Evolution: Evolution has good and bad points. Good: Pokemon gain higher stats; you complete your Pokedex faster; useless Pokemon get much more effective (Magikarp into Gyarados). Hint: Prevent evolution: This trick will allow you to keep Pokemon from evolving at their evolution state. You should now be in a room with Lorelei standing on a large platform with water around it. You can fish here for Pokemon, however the only thing that can be caught, even with the best rod, is Lvl. 15 Goldeen and Lvl. 5 Magikarp. Note: Surfing around here does nothing. Note: You need a rod to do this trick. However, hust before the PokeCenter there is a much better place to fight Pokemon because they will be at more appropriate levels. Hint: Diploma: Catch all 150 Pokemon in the European version of the game. Talk to the man in the Celedon Mansion's Game Freak corner (the man that is not using the computer). He will give you a surprise diploma. Hint: High level Pokemon sightings: At times Pokemon over level 100 will appear in the game. The following types have been seen at those high levels: Aerodactyl, Alakazam, Chansey, Clefable, Hypno, Nidorino, Golduck, Electrode, Snorlax, Magnaton, Starmie, Mewtwo, Marowak, Goldeen, Squirtle, Charmeleon, and Haunter. (when surfing up and down Cinnabar Island). When you use the "Missingno" cheat, the high leveled Pokemon you see will depend on your chosen name and which game you have. Not all high level Pokemon are the same in every game. For example, one blue version may have Kingler and Muk and another may have Golbat and Squirtle. The blue versions have many different types of high level Pokemon. Hint: Chansey: Get to the Safari Zone. Locate the rest house with the person that looks like a biker. Talk to him. If he says, "I caught a Chansey! That makes this worthwhile!", you will know that he is the correct person. After that, go to the closest patch and walk around. Eventually, you should run into a Chansey. Note: This does not make Chansey easier to catch. Hint: Charizard: Normally, Charizard can not learn FLY in the Red or Blue version of the game. However, if you trade Charizard to a Yellow version, it can learn FLY there. Then, trade it back to the Red or Blue version. Hint: Clefable: To get this Pokemon, go to the top of Viridian City. Go to the old man and answer "No". Watch him catch a Weedle via a Pokeball. Then, Fly to Fuchsia City. SURF to Seafoam Islands and SURF up and down (while in the water) until Clefable appears. It should be at level 137. Hint: Ditto: Place a level 5 Magikarp at the front of the lineup and allow Ditto transform into it. Take a Ditto and go to the strip of grass near Nugget Bridge and the Unknown Dungeon. Fight a Pidgey and use Transform. You will get Gust, Sand-Attack, and Quick Attack. Press Select and switch Gust with Sand-attack. Defeat the Pidgey. Transform will be erased and will be replaced with a nameless move that has the type "Cooltrainer." Get a PP up and an item, such as Max Elixir, that restores PP. Use PP-Up on Ditto's new attack. The game will show a glitch that implies that the attack's PP went up. These will not be restored in a Poke Center -- in order to use the attack you must use Max Elixir, Elixir, Ether, or Max Ether to restore the PP. It is now possible to use Ditto's new attack. It hardly ever hits, but if it does it will show two flashes of light and then do damage. Hint: Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite: When you look at Dratini, Dragonair, or Dragonite's Pokédex file, there will be a "no location" for them. According to this information, you cannot catch them in the wild, but this is incorrect -- you can catch them this way in the game. Hint: Dratini: To catch a Dratini in the Safari Zone, go to a area where there is a strip of land in the middle of the pond. Surf to the strip of land and use the Super Rod to fish there. If you are lucky, a level 15 Dratini should appear. In Pokemon Red, the only place that you can find Dratini is the Safari Zone. Go to the little fishing place next to the secret resting place where you get a prize for finding it. Fish for awhile with your Good Rod and the Dratinis will hook. Hint: Eevee: To catch an Eevee, go to the Cerulean City Pokemon Center. Enter the opening on the side. Go down that back way to a big building enter it. Go to the last floor to find an office with a Game Boy in it. Enter that to find a Pokeball that contains an Eevee. Hint: Electrode and Tangela: Go to the Research Lab on Cinnabar Island. Enter the first door to find people that will trade those Pokemon to you. Hint: Farfech'd: Go to the Vermilion City Pokemon Mart and keep going left. You will see two houses. One of them has a sign next to it, and one does not. Go two the house without a sign and talk to the girl. She will give you a Farfech'd if u have a Spearow. Hint: Fearow: To get this Pokemon, go to the top of Viridian City. Go to the old man and answer "No". Watch him catch a Weedle via a Pokeball. Then, Fly to Fuchsia City. SURF to Seafoam Islands and SURF up and down (while in the water) until Fearow appears. Hint: Gyrados: Buy the Magikarp offered to you just before Mount Moon by entering the Pokemon Center. A fat man will ask you if you want a Magikarp for 500 dollars. Although it may seem like a bad price, it will be worth it later. Place Magikarp first in the list. When battling, switch Magikarp with your strongest Pokemon and finish off your opponent. Keep repeating this until it reaches level 20. the best place to train Magikarp is the Unknown Dungeon or Diglett's Cave. Hint: Haunter: You can also catch Haunter over level 100 by using the rare candy code. Hint: Kangaskhan: Go to Fuschia and SURF until reaching Sea Foam Island. SURF up and down until M Pokemon appears. Catch it, nickname it, and use one rare candy on it to evolve it into Kangaskhan. Hint: Kakuna and Metapod: This trick allows Kakuna or Metapod to be able to fight and not just Harden,. When you have a Caterpie or Weedle that is at level 6, do the following. In order to make Kakuna and Metapod keep Tackle or Poison String and String Shot, make them stop evolving. They should be at level 7. Allow them evolve at level 8 and you will have a Metapod or Kakuna with an actual attack. Catch a wild Kakuna or Metapod. Put them to the day care center near Cerulean City. Wait for them to increase at least one level up. Pick them up and they will have the same attacks as their former evolutionary stage, but not harden -- Kakuna should have Poison Sting and Metapod should have Tackle. Just capture a Caterpie/Weedle with Tackle and String Shot. Let it evolve to Metapod/Kakuna, to get one that can attack. Hint: Lickitung: Go to the Pokemon Center in Fuchsia City. Go left and keeping moving in that direction past Koga's Gym. Then, keep going up and find the Cycling Road Entrance House. Enter use the stairs to find Professor Oak's aide and a trainer. Talk to the trainer and he will give you a Lickitung if you have Slowbro. Hint: Magikarp: Magikarp's Splash move does nothing, except against Tentacool where it does instant damage. Due to the fact that Magikarp is weak, the first thing you need to do is evolve it. Then teach it Bubble Beam, the move you obtained from Misty. Next level up your Pokemon and it should learn Dragon Rage and Ice Beam. This is a very strong Pokemon as it is not effected by water, fire, or earth. Hint: Mankey: To get Mankey, talk to the old man that tells you how to catch Pokemon. Then, go to the first patch of grass on the way to the Pokemon League. There are many Mankeys at that location. Hint: Meowth: Trade a Meowth from the blue version of the game as soon as you catch it to a new red version game. Meowth will soon acquire the Payday attack. Although Meowth will be hard to control, you will be able to make a large amount of money from the Payday move when he does listen. Use this move on wild Pokemon because you will not be able to control Meowth until you get the Cascade badge. When you face off against Mewtwo use Screech and its defense will fall greatly. Then, use an attack of your choice. Keep on using attacks until it has been weakened enough, then catch it with a Pokeball. Mewtwo is very hard to capture without a Master Ball. However, it also can be done with a Ultra Ball, or Great Ball. You must have a Pokemon over Lv. 60 or 70 to capture it with the Ultra Ball or Great Ball. After getting Mewtwo from the Unknown Dungeon, teach him TM14 (Blizzard) and keep the Psychic and Recover moves he has. Then, train him until level 81 and he will learn Amnesia. He can be unbeatable with those four moves. Hint: Pikachu: Pikachu can be found in Viridian Forest on level 3. First, walk through the door that connects Pallet town and the Forest. Then, walk about three to seven steps north. Then, turn either right or left and keep going until you reach the trees (dodge trainers if needed). There will be a small grassy area here. Walk around in it for a while and you will see Pikachu. Make sure that you have a level 3 to 5 Pokemon with you. You can use Pikachu to battle Misty at Cerulean City. Hint: Raichu: Raichu is located in the Unknown Dungeon and the Power Plant in the Blue version of the game. Raichu is only located in Unknown Dungeon in the Red version. Hint: Rhiorn: When you go to the Safari Zone find a Rihorn (or any other Pokemon), run from it, find it again, then catch it. Hint: Sandslash: To get this Pokemon, go to the top of Viridian City. Go to the old man and answer "No". Watch him catch a Weedle via a Pokeball. Then, Fly to Fuchsia City. SURF to Seafoam Islands and SURF up and down (while in the water) until Sandslash appears. It should be at level 27 or 37. Hint: Seadra: It is possible in the Blue version of the game to capture a Seadra by fishing in the indoor pool at the Indigo Plateau Building. Hint: Tangela: Tangela can also be found outside of the Safari Zone. Go to Pallet Town, go down to the water and Surf down. There should be a grassy area on the land to your right. You can catch LV 30 Pidgeottos, Raticates and Tangelas there. Hint: Tarus: Tarus will appear at times in the Safari Zone at Area 2. Hint: Wigglytuff: To find a wild Wigglytuff, search in the secret dungeon in the tunnels that you get to by going through the stairs. Hint: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo: To capture all of these Pokemon, you must have a Haunter at level 60. Put the Pokemon to be captured to sleep, then use Night Shade to weaken them. Finally, use an Ultra Ball. Hold A until the ball opens, then let it go to capture them. If it fails, try the Ultraball again at least three times. Note: Articuno is very difficult to capture. Another strategy is to use a powerful Raichu and Ultra Balls for Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. For Mewtwo, try using Artcicuno first and freeze it with Blizzard and Ice Beam. Then, weaken it with other Pokemon before finishing the battle with a Raichu and Pokeball. An easy way to catch the the legendary birds (Articuno,Moltres and Zapdos) is to put then to sleep using Gastly, Haunter or Gengar. Use Dream Eater until they only have a very small amount of energy left. Then throw Ultra Balls until they care caught. Hint: Defeating Mewtwo: When you are in a link battle and your opponent uses the weak rare candy trick on a Mewtwo, use an Electrode (have a two or so in your line-up). Attack Mewtwo until you are too weak to continue. Then, use Explosion and kill yourself to take out the Mewtwo. Hint: Rare bird Pokemon locations: Moltres (Victory Road), Articuno (Sea Foam Isle), Zapdos (Abandoned power plant). Hint: Better Safari Zone Pokemon: The more money spent to enter the Safari Zone, the better the Pokemon that can be obtained. Hint: Check Ghost Pokemon without the Silph Scope: You can see the Pokemon Ghosts in Pokemon Tower without the Silph Scope. When you are in battle choose PKM menu as if you were going to change Pokemon. Instead, just check the stats of any Pokemon in the party and go back to the battle. You will see the Pokemon that is there. Note: It is impossible to catch them, but it will be registered by your Pokedex. Hint: Defeating Ghost Pokemon: Use a ground type move such as Dig or Earthquake. Hint: Two turn attacks: When using a two turn attack, use a sleep attack first. For example, if you have a Venasaur that can use Solar Beam, use a sleep attack such as Sleep Powder to put the other Pokemon to sleep. If it is still fast asleep, use the two turn attack. If not, use the sleep attack again. Hint: Link battle strategies: When fighting a link game against a friend, make sure you have some two turn moves. If they use one of their moves, such as Fly, Dig, Solar Beam, Head Bash, use Fly or Dig. This will avoid their attack. Then, hit them with your most damaging attack. An excellent link move is Counter. Hint: Using the link cable to build your starting team: If you do not want to lose any Pokemon you really like and want to restart a game, trade the Pokemon from one game to another. To do this, go to a Pokemon Center and trade. Trade the desired Pokemon for a bad Pokemon from the other game. Repeat as many times as necessary, then restart your game. Get your Pokemon back from the other Pokemon game. You can do this to construct an almost invincible team. Hint: Pokemon level variations: Wild Pokemon of the same level are weaker than the same kind of Pokemon of the same level that you raised yourself. You can also select the moves that the Pokemon you learned (and forgotten) at an earlier level while wild Pokemon come "as is" with whatever moves are selected by the CPU. Having your Pokemon raised by the babysitter on Route 9 will cause the Pokemon to be weaker and have lower stats than it would be if you raised it through battles. Using Rare Candy to raise your Pokemon will cause the Pokemon to be weaker and have lower stats than it would be if you raised it through battles. Hint: Name origins: The first part of the name of the three mystical Pokemon birds, Arcticuno, Zapdos, and Moltres originate from arctic, zap, and mole. The last parts, uno, dos, and tres are Spanish for one, two, and three. Abra was originally called Hocus. Arbok is "kobra" (derived from cobra), spelled backwards. Aerodactyl was originally called Ptera. Arcanine was originally called Blaze. Charmander is derived from char(coal) and (sala)mander. Charmeleon is derived from char(coal) and (cham)eleon. Charizard is derived from char(coal) and (l)izard. Dewgong is derived from the Filipino word "Dugong" which means "Manatee". Ditto is a synonym for "same". It was originally called Metamon. Dratini was originally called Dragoon. Ekans is "snake" spelled backwards. Eevee is a written pronunciation of the first two letters of "Evolution". Gastly was originally called Ghos or Gost. Growlithe was originally called Flamie. Gyrados is Japanese for "tsunami". Hitmonlee and Hitmonchans name start with "hit", meaning their attacks are mainly fighting. The "mon" in both of their names is probably derived from "monster". The "lee" in Hitmonlee's name is from Bruce Lee, who was famous for kicking. The "chan" in Hitmonchan's name is for Jackie Chan, who is famous for his "piston punching". Kabuto means "helmet" in Japanese. Kabuto was originally called Att. Kadabra was originally called Pocus. Koffing and Weezing were originally called LA and NY as in Los Angeles and New York. Machamp was originally called Ju-Doh. Machoke was originally called Kung-Foo. Machop was originally called Kara-Tee. Moltres is derived from "Molten" and "Tres" (Spanish for "Three"). Omastar was originally called Kargo. Omanyte is derived from a fossil which is called "Omanyte". Onix is derived from a precious stone, named onyx. Pidgey is derived from Pigeon. Pikachu is derived from the Japanese words for "Electric" (Pika) and "Mouse" (Chu). Porygon is "Polygon" spelled wrong. Raichu is derived from the Japanese words for "Thunder" (Rai) and "Mouse" (Chu). Raticate is derived from the word "(e)radicate". Scyther was originally called Stryke. Scyther's name is derived from its arms, which are shaped like scythes. A scythe is a long blade attached to the end of a stick (what the Grim Reaper always carries around). Tauros originates from the Latin word "Tauro" (bull). Tentacool and Tentacruel are derived from the word "Tentacle". Vulpix is strikingly similar to the Latin word "vulpes", which means "fox". Hint: Change color scheme (Blue version): Use the following trick when playing the game on a Game Boy Color. Press Down + B + Select (as can be done with any classic Game Boy Game) to change the color scheme to match that found normally in the Red version of the game. Note: This does not change anything in the game except its appearance. Hint: All Pokemon (Game Boy emulators): Have any Pokémon saved game inside the "battery" folder (e.g. pokered.sav). Rename the saved file to the opposite version (e.g. pokeblue.sav). Run the emulator and catch all the blue version Pokemon. Rename the saved file to the original name (e.g. PokeRed.sav). You should now have the Pokemon from the other version of the game. Hint: All Pokemon at level 100 (Game Boy emulators): Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "pokered.sav" or "pokeblue.sav" file in the "battery" directory. Go to the end of the file, type "0402-1248983-7424506-3", and save it. Start the emulator and use Game Genie code A35-93C-433. This will result in all Pokemon at level 100. Hint: Getting Mew (Japanese version): Collect all 150 Pokemon. There is a man in Celadon city in the building where Eevee was found that gives you a very special Pokemon. He is located by taking the path that leads behind the buildings at the farthest north point of the city. There will be a secret door in the building that is off set from the row. Climb the stairs to find a group of people working on computers, when the building is entered from the front. Talk to the man that is not working on a computer to collect Mew. Note: In the North American version, you will receive a diploma. Go to Shion Town and change your Koiking's nickname to "Mew". Highlight the thirteenth tool on the tool screen and press Select(8). Attempt to change your Koiking's nickname again to any name. The monster will flash, but the name will remain the same. Mew will now be available. Have at least fifteen items and a water Pokemon at the top. Go to any grassy area and highlight the thirteenth item and press Select. Get in any fight and run away, and you should have Mew. Note: Pokemon Green and a link cable is required for this trick. Get a Machamp on the Japanese Green version of the game. Transfer it to a North American Red/Blue version of the game, and it will appear as a Mew. The North American version of the game normally does not have Mew. However, it can be unlocked with a special save game from Nintendo at their mall tours. All Pokemon (Japanese version): Note: This code requires two Game Boys, a link cable, and the red and blue versions of the game. Begin game play and find your first monster. Locate the Charmanders field and capture one of them. Link both Game Boys and rapidly and repeatedly use the "Trade" option. All 150 monsters should now be available. Raise your Pokemon to level 100 (Japanese version): Go to the seventh item in "Tools" and press Select. Get into a fight, then press Select on the attack you dislike to change it. Note: The monster must have all four attack spaces filled. Win the fight. Your monster will become level 100 and will enter the next stage of its life, if available. Glitch: Longer life: Find a Pokemon over level 100, and use rare candies until it reaches level 255. Store it in Bill's PC, and take it out later. The game will show that it has gone down some levels but has 999/437 life. It's life is now twice as long as normal. Note: This may work better with Snorlax. Glitch: HM referred as TM: After you get HM 01 and try to teach it to a Pokemon, the message "Teach TM to a Pokemon?" will appear. Glitch: S.S Ann never leaves: When on the S.S. Ann, defeat your rival. Get HM01 (Cut), then fight one of the junior trainers on the boat. Intentionally lose the battle. You will be transferred to the last Pokemon Center you visited, but the s.s. Ann will not have left.
